The university invited communities to submit planning proposals worthy of a final master’s project with a team of graduate students. City and county staff believed the odds were low given the distance from the Portland campus. But, it seemed like a promising endeavor, to enlist a group of students from an esteemed graduate school to help develop a much-needed vision for a downtown redevelopment plan. Well, as luck turns out, Umatilla hit the jackpot!

Grant Tips:
Say Thank you!!! This is especially important if funds have been awarded. However, take the time to thank a funder for their time and consideration even after being declined. Be gracious and kind, use this as an opportunity to re-connect with the funder, build a relationship with them, ask questions and learn from experience. Just because one proposal was declined doesn’t mean future ones won’t be successful.
